As you drive around your city, or even walk around your house, you will notice that not every light is the same. Some are brighter than others. Some put out more heat. Some merely put out a small glow. Not too long ago, the city of Indianapolis decided to replace some traffic lights in the downtown area with more "energy efficient" LED lights. As the winter season hit hard, the snow fell and and ice covered the traffic lights. Because they were LED they did not put out the heat it took to melt away the snow, rendering them useless and invisible. The city then had to install heaters, which ended up using more energy than the original bulbs that worked just fine. Similarly, my church was doing some stage and lighting changes. They replaced all the stage lights with LED's. It did not take them very long to realize that while LED's seemed bright, they do not put out the same kind of light as a regular bulb. The colors were pretty, but it just was not bright enough. As we examine Christians as lights, we will no doubt find these different kinds. My fear is that all too often, believers find themselves being LED lights. YES, they do put out light into darkness. YES, they look pretty in all their different colors. But when the storms hit, they don't put out any real heat. It is then that they try to plug into a heater to keep the cold away, and pretty much suck more energy from others than they are worth. Are you a LED Christian? I want to be a 300Volt incandescent bulb. One that could be a spotlight on Jesus. A light that has to be plugged into the main power source in order to function. We have a never ending power source! We do not have to worry about being energy efficient. The more we draw from Jesus, the more we put out. I want my light to get so hot that no matter what falls on me, it will melt away.
Examine yourself today. Are you a light that is bright so long as th weather is right? Do you have to suck the power from other people in order to stay warm or even visible? Can you honestly say you are powered by Jesus? You are the light of the world, but what kind of light are you?
